The Slap hitter meme presumably came from a comment in a game thread by a Phillies fan.
I’ll get downvoted to hell but Freddie freeman is overrated as hell. Dude is basically a slap hitter and doesn’t do shit to help win ballgames. He can sure joke around with the runner on first tho.
The original post started from r/hockey when the Nashville Predators swept the Chicago Blackhawks in 2017. It has been adopted many times to fit different narratives but always starts with a fan asking for a redo match in case it was a fluke.
The pasta signature is usually “No disrespect to the…” and “…sweeping them is a huge fluke and robs… of truly accomplishing what their capable of” or “redo X match in case it was a big fluke”. Sometimes its also referred to as the fluke rant from r/hockey.
No disrespect to the preds, I'm a firm believer that Nashville sweeping them is a huge fluke and robs the Hawks of truly accomplishing what their capable of. I've spent the last few days in pure disbelief and it just doesn't make sense to me. I've spent the entire regular season watching the Hawks play great hockey it's just not fair.
If the Hawks lose again I will face that the Preds deserved the win, but I am just 100% sure it was a fluke and does a big disservice to the Hawks and the NHL.
Baltimore Orioles
No disrespect to the O's, I'm a firm believer that none of Baltimore's opponents sweeping them in the regular season is a huge fluke and robs the rest of the MLB teams of truly accomplishing what their capable of. I've spent the last few days in pure disbelief and it just doesn't make sense to me. I've spent the entire regular season watching fellow AL East teams Iike the Jays and Rays play great baseball it's just not fair.
If the O's opponents go sweepless again I will face that the O's deserved to go the entire way without being swept, but I am just 100% sure it was a fluke and does a big disservice to the O's and the MLB.
Should Riot Games redo the match in case it was a big fluke? (Valorant & LoL)
No disrespect to sen, I'm a firm believer that Sentinels sweeping them is a huge fluke and robs Gen G of truly accomplishing what they're capable of. I've spent the last few days in pure disbelief and it just doesn't make sense to me. I've spent the entire regular season watching Gen G play great Valorant it's just not fair.
If Gen G lose again I will face that Sentinels deserved the win, but I am just 100% sure it was a fluke and does a big disservice to Gen G and VCT.
No disrespect to the G2s, KRUs, and C9s, I'm a firm believer that those players making the playoffs is a huge fluke and robs the Sentinels of truly accomplishing what their capable of. I've spent the last few seconds in pure disbelief and it just doesn't make sense to me. I've spent the entire year watching the Sentinels play great VALORANT, it's just not fair.
If the Sentinels miss again I will face that the C9s,KRUs, and G2s deserved their position , but I am just 100% sure it was a fluke and does a big disservice to the Sentinels and VCT.
No disrespect to the MXS players, I'm a firm believer that a Tier 2 team decisively beating Sentinels is a huge fluke and robs the SEN roster of truly accomplishing what their capable of. I've spent the past day in pure disbelief and it just doesn't make sense to me. I've spent the entire off-season watching the SEN gang play great ranked games on Twitch it's just not fair.
If SEN lose again I will face that MXS deserved the win, but I am just 100% sure it was a fluke and does a big disservice to SEN City and the Valorant competitive scene as a whole.
No disrespect to the Zeka, Peanut, and Viper, I'm a firm believer that those players making the finals is a huge fluke and robs the T1 of truly accomplishing what their capable of. I've spent the last few seconds in pure disbelief and it just doesn't make sense to me. I've spent the entire year watching the T1 play great League of Legends, it's just not fair. If the T1 miss again I will face that the Zeka,Peanut, and Viper deserved their position , but I am just 100% sure it was a fluke and does a big disservice to the T1 and LCK.
Should UEFA have Leverkusen and Atalanta redo the EL final in case it was a big fluke?
No disrespect to Atalanta, but I'm a firm believer that winning the Europa league over Bayer Leverkusen is a huge fluke and robs Leverkusen of truly accomplishing what their capable of. I've spent the last few minutes in pure disbelief and it just doesn't make sense to me. I've spent the entire season watching Leverkusen play great hockey football it's just not fair.
If Bayer Leverkusen lose again I will face that Atalanta deserved the win, but I am just 100% sure it was a fluke and does a big disservice to Leverkusen and UEFA.
Oakland is genuinely a shithole nowadays economically and safety-wise. These are businesses after all and a Vegas move will generate more income. Frankly, catching a baseball game during the day on a Vegas trip would be fun. It'll be a massive success. There are a ton of people who live in Vegas too that they should be able to build a solid fanbase over time.
The reality is that teams move all the time to follow US hotspots, the old fans protest it for a season or 2 but then it's normalized. At least Oakland fans can still go to Giant's games, I have far more empathy for fans in places like St. Louis who had the Rams abandon them and they don't have another team to go watch. Oakland has failed the As in the past 20-30 years, and new ownership and/or relocating should strengthen the MLB and the team.
Is this a mickey mouse ring? I mean we never actually got to see the true destined matchup to cap off an almost perfect MLB season, due to a fluke in the NLCS. By all rights the Phillies should have represented the National League in the World Series. With a fraudulent team in their place, is the integrity of competition compromised? A team like the Phillies is a team of destiny, a team that belongs on baseball’s biggest stage in the fall classic. Every baseball fan that watched the NLCS knows games 6 and 7 were illegitimate, and many have called for the MLB to investigate for possible scandals. Unfortunately the stolen NLCS sort of invalidates the achievement of the Rangers. It’s a shame that history will always attach an asterisk alongside the 2023 Texas Rangers, as no such cupcake matchup is worthy of the honor of calling oneself champion. The only real solution here is to have a final 7 game series between the Rangers and Phillies, and if the Rangers win that, they can call themselves true champions. But not before.
You came back home from work, tired from the office grind. It's been days since your team was mathematically eliminated from the playoff picture.
Laying down on the couch like a lurching grouch, you get your phone and open up Reddit, hoping for a sense of relief, a break from the never ending drawl of reality and then you see it.
You read the title of the post, word by word, letter by letter, a smile grows on your face as your eyes seemingly glimmered as they bounced along with that magic of your childhood returning to your soul.
It made you remember when you played catch with your father and when he took you out to your first ballgame, hot dog and soda in hand as you watched your beloved team play for 9 innings, it was magical.
And remembered how your father, and his father and his father hated that damn team, and told you stories about how their team was so close to winning it all if it wasn't for them.
Some of them may not be alive today to see it but they're in heaven, watching above as they hear the good news from the grapevine of beyond.
For the New York Yankees have been eliminated from the postseason as you whispered under your breath and type a comment under the post with 3 words that ties your hatred for those damn Yankees with others around the world.
